We have had a good mixture of new films on Netflix UK this week starting with another Netflix Original movie, “True Memoirs of an International Assassin” starring Kevin James. When a publisher rebrands a novice author’s crime novel as a memoir, he gets forced into a political heist. With only his book-writing knowledge to help him, he must pretend to be his lead character in order to survive.
The highly-rated Dutch war film “Black Book” has made a welcome return this week. After evading capture by the Nazis, Rachel, a Jew, ends up in The Netherlands. Taking on a new Aryan identity she joins the Dutch Resistance to try and infiltrate the enemy.
Following on with the war theme, which seems appropriate given today’s date, we have the harrowing documentary series “Einsatzgruppen: The Nazi Death Squads”. The series examines the Nazi group that were responsible for mass-murder of Jews, Russians and Gypsies during the war.
And, finally, for our last pick of the week is another interesting documentary filmed, perhaps surprisingly, in North Korea under strict government control. “Under The Sun” is essentially a propaganda film, the documentary often continues to film off script giving some insight into the life of a young girl and her family as she gets picked to take part an the annual ritual/ceremony often described as brainwashing youngsters to be a part of ‘the system’.
